The season is in full swing! The week of August 4 was rich in sightings. Three outings took place, dolphins were seen each time, in different conditions, in different numbers ✨
Other animals?
Yes, this week we were lucky enough to observe several species of birds and fish 🌊
- Yellow-legged Gulls, the largest Mediterranean larids
- Black-headed gulls
- Sandwich terns
- Little terns
- A gigantic group of storks in flight
- Bluefin tuna
Dolphins
Bottlenose dolphins are in our waters, and sometimes they’re more shy, sometimes they’re more curious.
On Tuesday, we were only able to observe the dolphins for a few minutes, in rock’n’roll weather!
On Wednesday, we found the dolphins after 2 hours of sailing offshore, more than 20 kilometers from the beaches! There were about fifteen of them, and we were able to make some very fine observations.
On Thursday, there were overtwenty of them – our record this year! We were able to observe a small group after 30 minutes of sailing, and then this score of dolphins an hour later – a magical moment!
So what should I bring?
In your backpack, bring :
- A vest: temperatures are different at sea, and it’s cool at 8am!
- Sunscreen, and a few hours later, the sun is out in full force! With the reverberation of the water, it can sting.
- Sunglasses, a must as the sun is low in the morning
- Water. Although we have a bar with water, sodas, beers… it’s always better to have what you need!
- Binoculars! They’re ideal for helping the crew spot signs of life, and for fully immersing themselves in the cruise.
- Camera, phone… to immortalize these moments!
We do not recommend this outing for those sensitive to seasickness. After all, the trip lasts 4 hours, so it’s not something you want to put up with! However, certain medications can help prevent this. If you’re unsure, we advise you to book an outing to the Rocher de la Sorcière (departure every day at 3pm and 5pm in high season, except Wednesdays), at 15 euros per adult, which will allow you to familiarize yourself with the boat and test your skills!
We don’t recommend outings with young children either, as it can take a long time to see dolphins, and although Thomas the naturalist guide is there to teach you all about marine life, the Mediterranean and the animals that inhabit it, it can take a long time. And there’s no guarantee of seeing any, although we’re currently aiming for a 100% sighting rate by 2025.
